There are lots of different types of illnesses!
Some are caused by pathogens (bad bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites). These are sometimes cured using medicines to kill them or prevent them causing harm.
Some illnesses are genetic, and we’re starting to make ways to cure these with gene editing.
Cancers are very complex and don’t have a “cure”, but we can help individuals with different methods including medicines, radiotherapy and more.
Preventing illnesses is another way, like with vaccines which are made by making a harmless version of a pathogen and introducing it to the immune system, so it knows how to respond if the real thing comes along.
