About Me:
I live in Brighton where I am doing my PhD in physics. In my free time I enjoy sports such as sailing, hockey, and tennis. I love music, hanging out with friends, and also a quiet evening with a book.

My Work:
I am physics PhD student at the University of Sussex. I part of a big international collaboration working on DUNE (Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment) based at Fermilab in the US.

DUNE will study the properties of neutrinos which will help us further understand the Standard Model of particle physics (which explains the interactions between the fundamental particles) and the origin of the universe. Even though neutrinos are one of the most abundant particles in the universe, they are very mysterious particles: they are the lightest particles of the Standard Model, but we still do not know their mass. My work consists on developing an analysis to study some of the neutrinos properties when DUNE will be running in the next decade.

My Typical Day:
In the morning I have breakfast (in the garden if it is not raining) and go to work around 9am. The first thing I try to do is to check my emails. Then, if I had done some simulations on the previous day, I analysis the data, and then run more simulations. Around 6pm I stop working and go either to my hockey training, sailing (if the weather is good), or I go play tennis with some friends.

The simulations I run depend on the work and analyses I am doing. Some simulations generate neutrino interactions whilst others might simulate the detector used to detect neutrinos to study uncertainties (errors on the measurements). Once I have analysed the output of the simulations, I prepare some slides to present the results.
In typical day I therefore spend a lot of time programming (and fixing my code).

Education:
I started school in Belgium and then moved to Spain. I went to the Lycée Français de Madrid where I did my Baccalauréat (the French equivalent to the A levels) in sciences. My school gave me a very broad idea of many subjects: literature, history, mathematics, physics. All have helped me choose what I wanted to study at university.
-
Qualifications:
I have done the Brevet, which is equivalent to the GCSEs in the French system. It included exams on many disciplines including French literature, mathematics, physics, and history. I have a Baccalauréat in sciences And I graduated from the University of Manchester last year with an MPhys in physics.
-
Work History:
I worked as a tutor whilst at school and during my first year at university.
-
Current Job:
My current job is my PhD position at the University of Sussex.
-
Employer:
My supervisor, Dr Kate Shaw, is a particle physicist that works on ATLAS (at CERN) and on DUNE. She is also heavily involved with physics outreach.
