Many animal species have veins to transport blood in a similar way to humans. The size of their veins will vary with the size of the animal, which means that if I’m collecting a blood sample from, say, a hamster, it’s likely to be more tricky to find the vein (and I’ll need a smaller needle) than if I’m collecting a blood sample from, say, a cow.
