I am originally from the Isle of Lewis, off the west coast of Scotland, but I now live in Glasgow with my cat Bella. I used to work at the University of Glasgow and for the NHS and I enjoy teaching people to become scientists.

I enjoy working in a laboratory as a scientist, but also really enjoy teaching people and training them how to do lab tests and other things.

My Work:
I have worked as a Microbiology Biomedical Scientist in NHS labs, have done some scientific research and taught as a lecturer in a University.

What I'd do with the prize money:
I would probably make some resources to help educate people that I meet at STEM events about antibiotic resistance.

Education:
I went to the local village school for years and then finished secondary school in the Nicolson Institute in Stornoway, on the Isle of Lewis.

Qualifications:
I got 6 Highers (as they were at the time in Scotland) when I finished school. I went on to do an Honours Degree at University, then a Masters degree and a Doctor of Philosophy (or PhD).

Work History:
I worked for the NHS for many years as a Biomedical Scientist. I worked in diagnostic microbiology laboratories, telling doctors what was causing peoples infections and what treatments might help them get better. I then moved into scientific research and worked with bacteria of various kinds a lot, before moving into science education at a University.

What did you want to be after you left school?
I had no idea, for the longest time!
Were you ever in trouble at school?
Not really, I liked learning, even from a young age.
If you weren't doing this job, what would you choose instead?
I would probably be doing more lab focussed work.
Who is your favourite singer or band?
Hmm, tough one. I do really like Ed Sheeran.
What's your favourite food?
Thai.
If you had 3 wishes for yourself what would they be? - be honest!
To be healthy, happy and able to travel.
