I think in the broad sense all the sciences are important to the future; learning more about the world around us and working to understand and overcome problems is always going to important. But biological disciplines specifically are important across a lot of major issues we face, for example I work in infectious disease which is relevant in vaccine development, pandemic prevention, overcoming antibiotic resistance, all of which are of particular importance in low/middle income countries. These topics have much wider implications than just human health as well; food security is pretty dependent on preventing disease in livestock and crops, for example. Biological disciplines are helping to find solutions to these problems and also have taught us a lot about how interactions with other living things shape them.

As biology studies the life forms, it is very important how our cells and the organisms (including the microorganisms that we cant see) work.
We can use this knowledge for the development of humanity and also to protect the environment and ecology.
