Question: when we put plasters on open, bleeding wounds, wouldnt that surely cause the blood to clot under your skin?? how come it just prevents bleeding?
Inside our body we want blood to be liquid and flow,, but that is not good if the blood can get out via an injury. Once our body realises it is injured it releases a distress signal. These chemicals cause blood vessels to contract ( or get smaller) and blood cells to stick together, which is called clotting. it also lets white blood cells to come to the injury so that any germs can be destroyed.
A dry blood clot on the skin is a scab, and blood clots under the skin are bruises- they tend to have a jelly-like squishy texture.
