If I was informed of a sea creature in trouble, such as a whale stranding or an abandoned baby mammal, my first move would be to call the SSPCA (I am based in Scotland – in England and Wales it is the RSPCA) and the SMASS (Scottish Marine Animal Stranding Scheme – in England and Wales this is the CSIP). These professionals are trained and legally allowed to handle the animals that are usually in trouble on our shores. Their numbers are: 0300 099 9999 (SSPCA), 0300 123 0346 (RSPCA), 07979 245893 (SMASS), and 0800 652 0333 (CSIP). Please report strandings if you see them!
