I agree with the others – it’s difficult to get started and get used to university and the subject, but it gets better after first year!

I agree with others too – the first year of the course is tricky because the way things are taught is different from how things were at school and there’s a lot more information to absorb and understand. It’s important to recognise that even if they’re not saying it out loud, everybody on the course feels the same so you all support each other in getting used to the new situation. Combined with living away from home (for most people, this is the first time they’ve done this) which means getting used to sharing a living space with new people, doing your own food shopping and cooking for yourself if you’re not in a hall of residence where they provide meals, organising the journey from where you live to lectures, and making new friends, it all feels like a lot to deal with but you get used to it gradually (and it’s helpful to talk to other people on your course or in the same living place so that you realise that everybody is finding it hard to adjust to all the changes so you need to allow yourself time to adapt to all the changes) Depending on the degree you’re doing, later in the course you may have the opportunity to choose specific modules which fit with your particular interests, so although the work gets harder from an academic point of view, it becomes easier because it’s what you’ve chosen to focus on.
