I’ve lived in Cambridgeshire for many years but I did my degree and PhD up in York! I grew up near Oxford, which means I’ve been spoiled for the cities I’ve been able to live and work in. It does mean I get them confused a bit though.
I love knitting and crocheting, particularly for babies. I’ve made cardigans, jumpers, hats, blankets and the occasional toy. My favourite project I’ve made was a jumper for my nephew with zoo animals on, the lion had a mane!
Dungeons and Dragons is one of my favourite things to do. I both play in and run games, I’ve been running my current weekly game for over two years. I love storytelling and getting to make my friends feel like heroes is just the best.
I also spend a lot of time in the wind and rain walking our Golden Retriever. Cheddar is nearly a year old and we’ve been able to take him on holiday to the beach. He was a bit scared of the waves to begin with, but soon learned the beach is the best place!

My Work:
I work at the NC3Rs, a scientific organisation set up to help scientists replace, reduce and refine the use of animals in research. I work closely with researchers to communicate their work impacting the 3Rs. I used to work with stem cells trying to model bone disease in a dish.

Education:
I went to Lord William’s School in Thame for my GCSEs and A-levels. I did Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Further Maths at A-level and History at AS level. I really liked History and thought about doing that at university but instead continued down the science route.
I attended the University of York where I did a Biochemistry degree with a year in industry. I worked at GSK for my year away which let me learn all sorts of practical skills that really helped with the final year of my degree.
My PhD is in stem cell biology, I genetically modified stem cells from the bone marrow to try and get them to behave as if they were from a patient with a genetic bone disease.
