The joy of discovering new things that no-one else knows! And then writing a report to tell them about what you found out. Then seeing that what you worked hard to know can now be used to improve people’s lives.
I didn’t enjoy science when I was at school, I really struggled to see the relevance of it to me personally. However now I love learning all about the different STEM jobs out there and meeting incredible people who do these amazing and interesting jobs. I’ve met someone who is training to become an astronaut, I’ve met people who are the only team in the UK who do their job, I’ve had a look around Aston Martin. It’s hard not to enjoy it when you keep an open mind and are willing to learn things.
I always liked science at school and especially liked when I got to do experiments. I liked having to solve a problem and go through each of the steps to get an answer. My work can be a bit like solving puzzles and problems. There is something not quite working as it should but you don’t know exactly which bit, so you have to find a way to look at each stage and work the problem out. It’s great if you’re the person to work out the problem so it can be fixed, and stopped from happening again.
