Sometimes the Moon passes between the Sun and the Earth, blocking the light from the Sun. When this happens everything goes really dark for a few seconds!
It is a bit strange this happens, since the Moon is much much MUCH smaller than the Sun, so how can it perfectly block the whole Sun? The answer is that just by chance, the Moon is close enough to the Earth and the Sun is far enough away, that they look relatively the same size on the sky!
