Iād say 10/10! Not only is the work really interesting and rewarding, but the people are also wonderful! My work requires me to talk to a lot of people to solve issues, and Iām really lucky to be surrounded by brilliant, knowledgeable, and kind scientists. A few of them act as SMEs (subject matter experts) for fields like microbiology, bioprocess engineering, and water quality monitoring, so we have really interesting conversations š

I would rate being a veterinary researcher 10/10, I really enjoy it! I couldn’t do the job I do now if I hadn’t been a clinical vet first, as the skills I learned as a clinical vet were required for me to start out in doing field research. For me, being a clinical vet was a lower score because I realised that rather than fixing the problem once it’s happening, when the animal is unwell, the owner is stressed about their animal being unwell and, sometimes, all of this is happening in the middle of the night when it’s more difficult to fix, what I enjoy more is finding out how to give animal owners advice to prevent a problem from happening. Some vets absolutely love doing the emergency fixing a problem aspect of the job, so they would likely rate being a clinical vet higher than I do!
