That’s a great question! For me, university (or ‘uni’ for short) was one of the most exciting and important adventures of my life (but not without its “I’m absolutely going to dropout tomorrow” moments).
Think of it like this: school is a bit like playing a video game where you follow a set story path. University is when you suddenly unlock the ‘open world’ mode.
Suddenly, you have the freedom to dive deep into the subjects you are truly passionate about. If you love science, you get to spend your days exploring it in labs and lecture halls, surrounded by people who are just as excited about it as you are.
It’s also where the focus shifts from just memorising facts to actually learning how to be a scientist. You get to run your own experiments, and sometimes they don’t work out as you planned. But that’s the best part! You learn that every unexpected result is a new clue that helps you solve the puzzle.
It was challenging, for sure, but it was the best kind of challenge. It’s where I met some of my best friends, where I got to run my first real research project, and where I truly figured out that my passion was using science to solve real-world problems.
So, college, or university, is a place where you get the freedom to become an expert in what you love, and you learn how to turn your curiosity into real discoveries.
