In our lab we work on degrons. These are pieces of proteins which can signal to the cell that they need to be destroyed – we can use this system to create new drugs which destroy proteins which are causing diseases.

Education:
I went to Holy Cross RC High School in Chorley, Lancashire and then to Runshaw College in Leyland. I took Biology and Chemistry A-Levels, but also Drama and Film Studies – doing drama really helped my confidence with scientific presentations at conferences later on.
I went to Bangor University in North Wales because I wanted to study marine biology, but when I started the course, I didn’t enjoy it, and found I much preferred molecular biology. I finished my degree in 2007, worked for a year, and applied for PhD courses.
I began my PhD at Edinburgh University (at the MRC Human Genetics Unit) and finished in 2012.
