About Me:
I live with my wife, two children and two hens 🐔 in South Cheshire. I love music, cycling and playing with LEGO with my kids.
-
My Work:
As a ‘Senior DevOps Engineer’ I write code that automatically builds servers (computers without a keyboard or mouse!) and networks (so servers can communicate with each other) in the cloud.
These servers then run other peoples programmes allowing hundreds of people to use them often via a Web browser – so just like YouTube or Office 365, or even this website!

Most of the code I write is called “Infrastructure as Code” or “configuration management” code. I use programming languages like Terraform and Ansible, and occasionally Python.
I most work in public cloud infrastructure including AWS and Azure. The code I write automatically builds entire systems in the cloud, and ensures those systems are secure and kept up to date.
-
My Typical Day:
I usually wake up at 7am. I have breakfast and help my kids get ready for school. I usually start work at 08:30 with my coffee and catching up on emails and messages.
I have a morning call with the rest of my team at 10:30 where we discuss what we’re working on and any challenges we have.
After lunch tends to be my focus time when I do most of my coding work, then I finish around 16:30, sometimes earlier if I’m taking one of my boys out to their hobbies.
