Yes, I picked different topics – GCSE was Art, DT and Spanish, A Levels were Biology, Chemsitry, English and Art

Yes! There’s no rule that you have to take that subject for GCSE. However, sometimes doing it for GCSE can help with preparation using prior learning. But you can still do it without! 🙂

I didn’t study in the English school system… I went through the Scottish system. That certainly allowed me to add additional S4 qualifications (O-grades as was) when I was doing my Highers in S5. In fact, I did Engineering Drawing O-grade at the same time as I did my Highers in Chemistry, Physics, Maths, English and History.

Absolutely. You might find that to study a subject at A-level you need to have achieved a specific grade at GCSE, but very often there isn’t a requirement like this. What’s more important, I think, is that you choose things that you enjoy. If you like doing it, you’ll be more successful. Don’t take a subject you hate just because someone tells you it’ll be good for you.
