Yes! There’s no rule that you have to take that subject for GCSE. However, sometimes doing it for GCSE can help with preparation using prior learning. But you can still do it without! 🙂
I didn’t study in the English school system… I went through the Scottish system. That certainly allowed me to add additional S4 qualifications (O-grades as was) when I was doing my Highers in S5. In fact, I did Engineering Drawing O-grade at the same time as I did my Highers in Chemistry, Physics, Maths, English and History.
Absolutely. You might find that to study a subject at A-level you need to have achieved a specific grade at GCSE, but very often there isn’t a requirement like this. What’s more important, I think, is that you choose things that you enjoy. If you like doing it, you’ll be more successful. Don’t take a subject you hate just because someone tells you it’ll be good for you.
