I originally wanted to go into medicine but I discovered I have a strong blood phobia – I still liked the research side of things so went into science!

I wanted to be a dentist! I liked the idea of helping people, and I liked that it involved biology which was my favourite subject. But as I studied more I realised I liked the science behind humans, animals and plants more than putting it into practice, so I studied to become a biologist rather than a dentist.

I was a typical kid when I was really young so I wanted to be everything. A doctor, a superhero, a pop star or actor, a racing driver, astronaut and even a farmer. But, I settled on trying to join the army, and that then directed me to becoming a scientist/engineer.

All sorts of things! I wanted to be a geneticist, a palaeontologist, a doctor, a dentist, a writer, an actor, an astronaut, and I’m sure some other things as well. I specifically remember wanting to be a scientist or doctor who worked on a ship or in space. I’ve never been to space, but I did get to be a scientist (and I have worked on a ship!) and also a writer, so I’d say I have had some great luck with my jobs.

I wanted to be a teacher! I was never that good at science growing up so I never considered being a scientist, but as I grew up and had the opportunity to take more science classes like biology and found my passion!
