As a vet i worked with horses, and they are always my favourite animals, although they have some super weird evolutionary issues – look up the “recurrent laryngeal nerve” to see how daft horse anatomy is! They aren’t the best designed animals that’s for sure. My research since leaving veterinary practice has also used horses. I am a big advocate for the “one health principle” which means that animal, human and environmental health are interlinked, so by learning about one, you can make a difference in all areas. At the moment i am working with fruit flies…..quite a lot different to horses!
