      I’ve discovered that HIV has evolved many ways to interfere with our cells to do its own bidding. On one hand, it’s scary, but on the other, it’s really cool. Learning about this can one day lead to a better way of fighting this virus since there’s still no cure.

      I more work on software to detect or diagnose viruses so we don’t make a lot of discoveries about viruses themselves – more likely I discover our lab procedures or software has something wrong with it.

      Sometimes you might find out something about the virus that is relevant to detecting it though – like maybe there’s a variant type of the virus that your methods aren’t picking up.
