My journey has been lots of little decisions rather than one big one. I wanted to be a vet when I was younger, but got to work with a PhD student on a lab project making cells fluoresce under a microscope. After that, I focused on biochemistry and cell biology. During my own PhD I realised how much I enjoyed writing about science, and so when the time came to get my first job that’s the type of work I looked for.

If you’re interested in science writing, I’d advise you to get a scientific degree and potentially a PhD. While I don’t work in the lab anymore, knowing how research works is so helpful for working with other scientists!
