Yes, I like my job. I get to meet lots of interesting people (in my company, in other companies and universities, all over the world) and I learn lots about new things in science. For example, how to make materials from waste shellfish or fallen down trees instead of from oil and gas. So you could say I get paid to enjoy myself. But it is still work and that means from Monday to Friday if it is sunny outside I still find myself stuck in my lab or office rather than outside enjoying walking, cycling or exploring.

I enjoy my work, mostly for the continual learning and findings that may help future policies or inform the populations how to improve their health to live and age well. It has its challenges though, as do all jobs and it can be quite demanding and hard to set boundaries.

My job is Lab Manager, and I look after a lab full of biologists, who work on making bacteria able to recycling waste materials to extract valuable metals from them, which I happen to be very passionate about, and think it’s a very rewarding topic to research. I also get to work and collaborate with some very nice people and share ideas and my research. As well traveling around the world presenting my data to other scientists.

Some of the things I dislike, are that working on science is a very slow process, and it takes a lot of troubleshooting to achieve your goal. My type of science is also not very 9am-5pm sometimes experiments over run or need your attention at the weekend
