This is a very important question! For me, my research is focussed on making materials better so that they can kill bacteria without needing antibiotics, and that means my work will (hopefully) directly help people, and prevent them from getting ill. This is my motivation, and knowing I can help people always gets me up in the morning. Some days are difficult, and when things don’t always go the way you expect it can be difficult to stay motivated. But the best thing you can do is sit and think about why did you get into science in the first place, what are you researching and why is it important. Focus on these and hopefully you will have more positive, motivation-full days than not!
