The majority of the plants reproduce through the setting of seed, so combining pollen and the ovule to make a new seed. Some plants are able to accept self pollen – pollen from the same plant, in which case their progeny are very similar genetically (E.g. a pink flowered plant will have pink flowered offspring). In other cases the plants only accept non-self pollen – so pollen from another plant, and their progeny will be a mix of the two plants (E.g. a red flowered plant and a white flowered plant would have pink flowered offspring). The pollen is able to travel between plants, on the wind and on insects.
Some plants are also able to reproduce asexually, by producing a new plant from themselves – e.g. new strawberries plants will grow from runners (sidewise stem), these new plants will have roots, leaves and flowers just like the parent plant and will be identical genetically (E.g. pink flowered parent will have pink flowered offspring).
