I slightly fell into it to be honest! I attended Wiki editor training in 2019 and did nothing with it for a year. I then started adding photos as part of Wiki Loves Monuments, and it grew from there. An opportunity popped up in the School of Computer Science, I applied for and got it, and my career as a computer scientist grew from there! I’m very much at the human end of human computer interaction research, but there is space for all sorts of researchers here.
I started out on a placement year – which is something you can take if you go to university. It is a year between your second and third year of study where you can work in a company of the industry of your choice, for me it was tech. This means I got a year of experience in computer science while getting paid and it counted towards my degree. A win-win on all sides and really helped me understand where my passions lie.
