I’ll probably get people disagreeing with me on this.. but I don’t think so.

Clearly if you want to go on to do French at A-level and become a French teacher then yes.
(or anything where that subject is an absolute MUST)

But the options I chose of the choices were business studies, computing and geography. I didn’t do further maths or science triple award and I was still able to become an engineer. I’d say choose what you enjoy and best demonstrates your abilities!

      Not necessarily!

I’m a biological sciences PhD student but my GCSE options were Art, Textile Design, and Classical Civilisations, and I only did Double Award Science (i.e. not Triple Science).

I think A level is where you have start planning for future career paths a bit more (I did Biology, Chemistry and Physics for A level) but at GCSE it’s more about finding out what you enjoy. When I began my A levels I felt slightly behind other students who had done Triple Science at first, but I soon caught up, and went on to do a Biochemistry degree and now a PhD.

I also think it was really beneficial for me to explore my more creative side before settling on a career in science – a little creativity goes a long way in research!
