• Question: Do sciencetists and doctors work together to create vaccines or is it just scientists or just doctors/nurses

      Many university projects are multi-disciplinary and involvement from outside of academia is very important. For example, I’m part of a project funded by Cancer Research UK looking at mouth and neck cancers, which is being driven by surgeons cutting out the cancers and researchers at QMUL, with Liverpool University growing the bacteria and I’m at The Open University where we do the analysis

    Many different disciplines of scientist can be involved in creating vaccines, as well as related technical topics like diagnostics. A recent example is Covid, where some of the scientists who were involved in developing the ‘home’ 10 minute test that we all used to determine if we had Covid were virologists (virus specialists) who had previously worked on animal virus disease.
