Yes, it all depends on where you are at the time of the explosion and what you do afterwards.
You want to protect yourself from the initial explosion and then the fallout afterwards. Avoid going outside until you are told it is safe to do so and eating/drinking anything that might be now contaminated. If you do have to go outside, you have to make sure to decontaminate (shower and changes clothes) when you return.
The radiation fallout zone will be bigger (and weather dependent – the winds might push it in a certain direction) compared to the blast zone.
