I work for a company as part of a research and development team inventing new ways to help people in hospitals. We think of new ideas and build prototypes, and then usually break them! In doing this we learn what does and doesn’t work so we can make amazing products that save lives.

My Typical Day:
I usually wake up late so have a quick breakfast before heading in to work. I usually start my day by checking the 3D printers, cleaning and preparing and models that were made overnight. We usually then have a brainstorm with the team about some ideas we have before making some quick prototypes to test our ideas.
I’ll usually then make a design on the computer with CAD (computer aided design software) before setting up the printers to run overnight before going home!

We use lots of equipment for making models and tests of ideas we have, so every day can be different for me! At the moment we are making a batch of models, so I am doing lots of manual making of things from metal, using big computer controlled machine, 3d printers and laser cutters.

What I'd do with the prize money:
I’d love to run a robot wars activity! I ran a similar event whilst at university and it was a hit. We used cardboard and remote control parts to build robots that could complete challenges and compete to win a 3D printed prize!
