I really like films and try to watch a lot, and also read in my spare time. I have been doing pottery for the last little while too, which I’ve really enjoyed. I’m not very good yet but I’m definitely getting better!
I like to play video games too, my favourite recently has been The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

My Work:
I research offshore wind – specifically looking at how the money that is spent to build a new wind farm will benefit the UK.

The money spent when building a wind farm will cause new jobs to be made – more people will need to work to make the extra stuff we are asking for!
I also look at emissions. By swapping out energy from sources like coal or gas, we will be buying parts that use less carbon. We want to see how much we are saving by swapping, so that we can encourage more swapping in the future.
-
My Typical Day:
I usually work from home, so I can pick my hours to suit me! I will usually have some tea or coffee, take my dog out for a short walk and then get started. My work is all on a computer, but I could have a variety of tasks.

My different tasks might involve reading articles or academic papers – it is important to keep up to date on what work other people are doing. Sometimes I might be writing my own! Otherwise, a lot of my time is spent with data and numbers – large spreadsheets which I need to dig into to find what values I am looking for, or computer programming to analyse the data once I have it.
-
Education:
My first school was Glassford Primary – we were a small school with only about 60 pupils in total. I then went to Strathaven Academy (with about 600 pupils it seemed huge!).
After school I studied Physics and Astronomy at the University of Glasgow, before carrying out a PhD in offshore wind at the University of Strathclyde.

Work History:
After university, I first worked as an engineer for a company who make gas analysers. I helped to develop new products, which went out to big industry customers like oil and gas companies – who used them to measure their emissions or what was in the gases they were selling.
I then switched from physics/engineering to economics – which is what I do now.
