About Me:
My research is a mix between Environmental Science, Marine Biology, Marine Technology and Optics. Specifically I look at coral health using colour and special cameras that detect colour.
I am also a keen tinker-er of electronics/robots and an avid oogler of marine life.
I love painting minatures, swimming and diving.

My Work:
I am researcher at the University of Bristol and I look at coral health using colour and special camera’s that detects and measures colour. My research is a mix between Physics, Environmental Science, Marine Biology, Marine Technology and Optics. I also dabble in marine robotics and electronics.
-
My Typical Day:
I work 9-5 generally and this can include a whole host of things from designing components on the computer to then 3D print them or to going to the electronics lab to dismantle a camera.
And when I am lucky enough to be on fieldtrips this turns into diving in the morning on a coral reef, lunch then diving again in the afternoon. Sadly this is not all the time!

What I'd do with the prize money:
I have set up 2 initiates for outreach one is “Phys-crate” where we will be making lesson resources to help teach about contextual physics in real world scenarios. An example of this learning about radiation and how we detect it using surveys and drones, these are highlighted using a teaching game and simulation radiation sources and detectors. The aim of the program is to send these supplementary materials out to schools to enhance the curriculum.
The other initiate is around using robots for outreach and teaching students about how robotics can be used to enable science. This includes bringing robots (including our robot dog!) into schools and letting students control them and learn how we use them in physics.
