I love reading fantasy / sci fi / and horror novels. My favourite authors are Terry Pratchett, Ursula K Le Guin, and T Kingfisher. When I’m not working, I’m also editing my first novel.

I work in library sciences investigating the best ways that scientific findings can be shared and used by others.

I study the different ways scientists make their scientific findings find-able, reliable, and transparent. this includes:
- Understanding how scientific research is made available (making sure its free to read rather than behind a paywall)
- Understanding the methods used to design experiments
- Understanding how scientific methods are reported (making sure enough information is given to repeat an experiment)

My Typical Day:
I work from home most days and go into the office once a week. I use computer programming to analysis my data and make visualisations like graphs and interactive data apps.

Education:
I went to primary and secondary school in West Lothian in Scotland. After I left school, I went to the University of Edinburgh to study Neuroscience.

Qualifications:
At high school, I studied Art, Biology, Chemistry, English, Maths, Physics. I then when to university to study Neuroscience (the science of the brain). A couple years later, I started my PhD, which is a four year post-graduate course. I’ve just finished my PhD recently.

Work History:
My first ever job was working at the cafe in a local tourist attraction. After university, I worked for two years as a research assistant, helping out with scientific projects, before starting my PhD. During my PhD, I had a few part time jobs including teaching courses, managing a website, and working in a library.

Current Job:
Now, I’m working as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Edinburgh. I’m working closely with a research centre with over 50 lab groups and helping them conduct and share their research more effecitvely.

I currently work for the University of Edinburgh, one of the UK’s oldest universities.
