About Me:
I am live in Bristol with my wife. We have lived here since 1999. We have one son, who has just finished studying at University.
My job is a researcher at the University of Bristol.
My main hobby is rowing – I am out on the water once or twice a week and I serve on the rowing club committee.
-
My Work:
I work at the University of Bristol developing detectors for Particle Physics and the electronics needed to read out and store the data from them
-
My Typical Day:
During the week I usually get up at about 7am and have breakfast (a bowl of muesli with a banana sliced on top) and walk up a big hill to the Physics Lab where I arrive about 9am. Once or twice a week I get up at about 5:45am and cycle to the rowing club to go rowing with friends.
At the Physics Lab I spend some of my time in my office writing and answering E-mails, designing electronics, attending video conferences and planning my work. The rest of my day I spend in the lab working with electronics and particle detectors

What I'd do with the prize money:
We have a “spark chamber” ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spark_chamber ) that we use to show visitors cosmic ray muons. We use it several times a year and we are running out of gas to keep it going.
