What I'd do with the prize money:
If voted the winner by students and awarded the £500 prize money, I would use it to create a series of interactive STEM workshops for local schools and community centers. The focus would be on engaging students with hands-on activities that demonstrate key scientific and technological principles in a fun and accessible way.
The funds would cover materials such as kits for building simple machines, electronics for coding basics, and environmentally-friendly supplies for chemistry experiments. Additionally, part of the prize would be allocated to transport costs to ensure these workshops can reach underrepresented and underserved areas.
These workshops would be designed not only to spark curiosity but also to promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with an emphasis on teamwork and creativity. By making the workshops adaptable to various age groups and educational backgrounds, the initiative aims to inspire a passion for STEM fields in young minds, encouraging them to explore potential future careers.
Furthermore, I would plan to partner with local universities and STEM professionals to offer sessions and mentorship programs, ensuring that participants have role models and ongoing support in their STEM journey. By creating an engaging and supportive environment, the prize money would make a significant impact on the participants’ attitudes towards and understanding of STEM.
