A thank you from your winner, Min Yap🏆🎉

Min Yap is the latest winner, after receiving the most votes from students! She wins £500 to spend on further science engagement, donated by Dr Jimmy Holloway of Peerless Windows Ltd, who was an I’m a Scientist winner himself in 2013 while doing his PhD. Here’s what Min Yap had to say about her victory: I’m very surprised and extremely delighted to be voted this term’s winner of I’m a Scientist. I’m so grateful for this honour and I want to say a massive thank you for all the students and teachers who participated in the chats and contributed questions. It has been an eye-opening experience to get questions on all aspects of being a scientist. It brought a fresh perspective on my work and made me think about the path that led me here and how I communicate what I’m doing in my research.   Students, thank you for the … Continue reading

🥳 The next Moderator Award goes to…

Burntwood School took part in British Science Week for a second time this year with 8 Chats for different Year 9 classes. Students asked questions that ranged from the scientists’ careers, to websites that could help them study certain subjects, and to shared hobbies like favourite video games or social media. This Year 9 student (band520race) from Burntwood School proved her scientific knowledge and interest despite believing she’s “not very good at science” – we definitely disagree! 👏 Congratulations! 🥳Could you win the next Moderator Award? The Moderator Award is given by our moderators to students who have participated in one of the I’m a… activities. Be it for their positive attitude, their fluid conversational skills, their curiosity, their further engagement by reading scientists’ profiles in advance or asking further questions in our Ask feature. The winning student earns a £20 Waterstones voucher as recognition for their stand-out engagement.

🥳 The next Moderator Award goes to…

Great conversations came out of the almost 250 I’m a Scientist, Get me out of here Chats that we ran during British Science Week. 14 of those were with Sir Herbert Leon School, who took part for a second year in a row. Their students, including the one below, were full of plenty of questions and ideas and keen to share their thoughts. This Sir Herbert Leon student (thaw520mono) showed her keen interest and enthusiasm when talking with Sophie S. It was great to see both student and scientist taking away some new curiosities to explore and share after their Chat: 👏 Congratulations! 🥳Could you win the next Moderator Award? A thank you from your winner, Jack Hughes🏆🎉

Jack Hughes is the latest winner, after receiving the most votes from students! He wins £500 to spend on further science engagement. Here’s what he had to say about his victory: I am absolutely thrilled and genuinely surprised to have been awarded this term’s winner of I’m a Scientist, especially as an engineer! It’s been an incredible experience, and I’m so glad to have made an impact during such an important term, with National Apprenticeship Week and British Science Week. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed talking to all of you and answering your fascinating questions. Raising awareness about apprenticeships has been particularly rewarding, and I hope many of you will consider these as valuable alternatives to traditional routes at any level. Your questions have kept me curious and constantly questioning myself, which I love. From the use of AI in industry to sustainable engineering practices and beyond, your inquiries have been thought-provoking … Continue reading
