They use sunlight, carbon dioxide (CO2), and water to make sugars that can be used for energy, so they’re important to provide food for all sorts of other living things. They also help provide protection/a place to live for bugs, small animals, and even smaller plants.

Plants are amazing living things that do important jobs that impact all life around them which Rachael has mentioned in their answer 🙂

Plants can also do some cool and surprising things! Some plants, like the Venus Flytrap, can eat insects. Plants can send messages to warn their plant neighbours about the danger of insects eating them. Some plants can store lots of water, like the enormous Baobab tree. Also some plants produce interesting chemicals that people can use to treat cancer or manage pain, like aspirin from willows.
